Dear Sarah* - your period is not a curse.

Dear Sarah* (a girl who has just started menstruation/their period)

I hope you and your family are doing fine.

I am writing this letter to let you know that having your period is not a curse or you being unclean, instead it is your body preparing you to have a baby when you are old enough and ready to have one.

First, it is important for you to take care of yourself when you are having your periods. During this time you will experience cramps, headaches and backpains which is normal depending on how your body and hormones are responding. You may also experience loss of appetite and have mood swings.

Secondly, you can use different types of sanitary towels such as tampons and reusable pads. Do practice good hygiene, ensure you use safe products and that for those that require it you change regularly to avoid vaginal infections.

I would encourage you to consult people who have experience.

Yours faithfully,
